From Cal State Fullerton
For a full day, five days a week, for 10 weeks, a dozen students are spending the summer soaking up Persian as part of a U.S.-supported initiative to increase the numbers of Americans who can better understand or work in Persian, Chinese, Arabic and Korean. The dozen, as part of an expedited training push, will go on to take two more academic courses in Persian before spending time next spring in Tajikstan to polish their linguistic abilities. This summer, they've gotten more cultural exposure and the chance to speak Persian in visits to temples, restaurants and cultural venues; they're absorbing lessons not only on the language but also music, history, geography, film and literature. And, by the way, this is a scholarship program that covers most of their costs.
