Youth violence, obesity among the young, high dropout rates, the prevalence of teen pregnancy -- name the prevailing social ill with kids today and the common myth blames media and media overexposure. That's just wrong, says a sociologist who says she has studied the issue for more than a decade. Sure, she says, it's easy to blame video games, bloody movies, and twisted or bent tv and song lyrics for all manner of problems with today's youth. That just masks real causal factors, such as poverty.
