Dozens of ensembles have gathered for a weekend conference and concerts devoted to an art form that has come to symbolize Japanese-American culture: taiko drumming. The 7th biennial North American Taiko Conference includes workshops, a marketplace and numerous performances today and through the weekend, many of them free, public and in the open JACC plaza. Then, on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, the Aratani/Japan America Theater will be the site of "Taiko Jam '09" spotlighting top troupes form Nevada, Oregon and Los Angeles; tickets are on sale.
