It isn't the most obvious accolade imaginable. But Bayer, BASF and Sherwin Williams all attain top marks from the Roberts Environmental Center after researchers scrutinized the Fortune 500 chemical giants' ecological and social sustainability policies and practices. At the other end of the spectrum were Mosaic, Hexion Specialty Chemicals and Solutia. The center has issued periodic reports on the public green attributes across a range of areas, including most recently scoring the environmental and social sustainability policies and practices of those companies from China on the Global Fortune 500. Researchers noted that monoliths in the chemical industry must trade on public exchanges and that factor, combined with governmental regulators and regulation and heightened public awareness on social and environmental issues, has forced top companies to be more responsive and responsible on these topics than ever before.
