While pop culture depictions have gotten lots correct -- and incorrect -- on the topic, Freemasonry has such history, superstition and lore surrounding it so as to have launched ample academic scrutiny. And that includes an Irvine anthropologist and cultural scholar whose research has taken her to Italy for an 18-month stint among the members of the secretive society. Her work, among other things, highlights a lesser-known, dare we say almost secret (hah!) aspect of the groups -- women, especially upper-class ladies, can be and are Masons and maintain their own lodges.
Anthropologist's trek to Italy tracks little known aspect of life of secretive Masons

Not such a secret if one looks past the sheen. Women Masons have existed for some time, both in regular circles and within in their own lodges.
I recommend one look at:

or listen to an interview with Karen Kidd on Masonic Central on the subject.

This thing seem to have alot of history and knowledge to back up there doings, but the thing is, we are all subject to it. dont get me wrong, if you are strong, that is all well and good. What we must remember, it isnt in full force yet and when it does, how much of us can back up our talk? How much willing to live in a shack after you work so hard maybe all your life/ all you life to achieve what you have? no job, no money and no one to help you, are we really prepare to give up all of that? Trust me, if you think beyond it, it is frightening.
