Though they constitute nary so much as a drop in the great sea of the 40,000 or so of their peers in Westwood, the estimated 300 students who are veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are a notable bunch and they're making the challenging readjustment to not only civilian but academic life. After adapting to hostile, life-threatening environments, they're learning to roll with the relaxed, casual and easy-going student life, they've said in sessions of a special class for them. But they're also more mature than many of their contemporaries and they've been instilled with a discipline and work ethic, they say, that also makes them want to tell their fellow students to hold down their youthful whining and hit the books harder because their getting a precious opportunity.
