Procedures matter and that includes in the act of voting, researchers say, noting that even though people may not actually change their minds on a given issue, how they are asked about it can sway results. If asked to rank a slate of candidates rather than just picking a single favorite, for example, voters will alter their choices. Examining how such choices occur requires complex math replete with algebraic and geometric means of scrutiny, the researchers found.
