Hop to it: Californians to seek jump rope record

Will laughter peal and rhymes fly next week on campuses across the area? Will passersby hear: "I love coffee, I love tea, I want so-and-so to come in with me?" Jump in, folks. Put it on the calendar. Feb. 1 could be a hopping day for California, as the Golden State officially will seek to snatch from Australia the Guiness World Record for the most people jumping rope. Of course it's a health thing, a fun promotion for an excellent cardiovascular exercise. But out in Pomona, the preregistration will start at 8:20 in the morning, the gym will open at 9 and there are all kinds of activites planned to encourage participants to be part of the hoped-for 80,000 Californians skipping up to bust the Down Under record of 59,000 school kids skipping rope.
