From Cal State Fullerton
In memory of a late, great, salty and somewhat-crazed editor and onetime chopper pilot who flew combat missions over there and lived to tell about it, here's a tale of a different, smart take about getting young journalists up to speed: how about immersing them fully in a story, tracing it back to its historic roots if necessary. Say, like, taking them to Vietnam so they can fully understand the issues and challenges of one of the big, significant ethnic communities in Orange County? Fourteen fortunate Titans, in an experience that may be more common for students at pricey private institutions but is less so at a Cal State, are filing from the Mekong Delta as they hone their reporting, writing and other skills in this global field experience, partly underwritten by the school and by students' own out-of-pocket contribution.
International trip immerses young journalists in culture of key local community

As there have been so many conflicts in Indochina, this conflict is known by the name of their chief opponent to distinguish it from the others. Thus, in Vietnamese, the war is known as Chien tranh Viet Nam (The Vietnam War), or as Khang chien chong My (Resistance War Against America), loosely translated as the American War.
