From UCLA, UCR, USC & Pepperdine
Call them gauges of contemporary campus life in all its different aspects:
- Chancellors in Westwood and Riverside join colleagues across the UC system in denouncing the racist and just plain stupid activities by some students that have the campuses in San Diego and Irvine up in arms.
Across town, the Trojans offer glimpses into the lives and thinking of their folks. Some students, for example, conducted an event that gave a twist to the 'Just say no' sexual abstinence sloganeering by running a gay, lesbian, bisexual, gender neutral speed dating session in which participants were encouraged to just say, 'Yes,' to equal opportunity opportuning. And, of course, since music be the food of love, and kids now can rock out as a potential career, the school offers a public update on its six-month-old pop music program, which conducts a free showcase tonight. When they get along a bit, including graduating and calling the place alma mater, turns out that Trojan alumni think well of the school and value their degrees highly, especially if they get to take advantage of career services and other connections through and to the university.

- In Malibu, lest anyone get a thought that students might be too self-obsessed and self-serving, spring break will send 200 Waves for public service projects around the globe and nation, aiding the poor and needy, notes the university, which notes that it recently received national honors for the breadth, scope and innovation of its community service programs.
